Dynamics in Perfection
Playing water polo, extreme rock climbing or windsurfing – Rasmus Kaessmann’s scenes focus on the drama in sport - whether it be in competition or an individual fight against the elements. Be it in his energy-filled action pictures or his portraits shaped by dynamics and movement – the essentials of the photographer are a wide angle lens and artificial light, but above all, being right up close to the action.
Rasmus Kaessmann does not leave anything to chance. His shootings are characterized by a contrived staging, including the elements such as water and wind, the rocks to be climbed, and – above all, the movement to be caught. All this is as well planned as the combination of flash and very short shutter speeds. In that way, artificial appearing scenes are created, filled with impressive dramatic.
Rasmus Kaessmann, born in 1979, is one of those photographers who have made their hobby to their profession. He started off taking pictures of his friends while rock-climbing or snowboarding. The springboard to his profession were four years of freelance photo-assisting. The work of the photographer, who lives in Berlin but has Swedish roots, has vastly expanded from pure sport photography, as we can see in his list of clients which includes Reebok, Sony, Stihl, Vattenfall, Uniroyal, Rütli-Wear - a social project fashion-label from Berlin-Neukölln, and many more. Lately, he won the Swiss Press Photo Award in Advertising, was shortlisted on the Sony World Photography Awards and appeared with his enthralling pictures in the ADAC travel magazine, Men´s Health, Merian, Stern, Geo Special and different newspapers.
